And now for the Utility programs. They run in a DOS window.

Are you into Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) and Julian dates? Would you like to know what day of the week October 26, 2010 is? Try the year 2525 (remember the song?). Can you convert degrees to radians and vice versa? Can you compute power attenuation and amplification in dB? Can you convert from decimal to octal or to hexadecimal and vice versa? How about temperature (F to C and vice versa)? What about logs and natural logs? Try these Simple DOS Utilities. I will add more as I find the need. Send me some ideas.

Convert Words to Phone Numbers

This utility is designed to help you easily convert words to phone numbers (1-800-CALLMOM converts to 1-800-225-5666) and save them in a text file. It converts the words to numbers on screen as you enter the letters, and the file "Word2Num.txt" is automatically created to save the results. New entries are appended to the existing file, so the old file is not overwritten.

Enter a date, and this utility will give you the day of the week and the Julian date. I think it may even be Y2K compliant since it doesn't use your clock to calculate the answer. If you aren't familiar with Julian dates, don't worry about it. (Hint: got a desk calendar?)

After you have hand calculated the log10 or the logn of a number, check your answer (no cheating) with this program.

This program will convert temperature from F to C and build a table of temperatures which you can save in a text file. If you want to convert the other way, just read the table from right to left.

This program will convert volume from Liters to Cubic Inches and build a table of volumes which you can save in a text file. If you want to convert the other way, just read the table from right to left.

These two programs convert Decimal to Hex (DOH) or Hex to Decimal (HOD). I just threw in the Octal stuff for symmetry. If you want both in one program, download DOH-HOD.

This program will convert latitude and longitude from degrees to radians and vice versa.
